The investigation into treatment and care provided at hospitals in Shropshire has been widened. The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust was already subject to a review following concerns surrounding its maternity department, with concerns also raised over A&E safety.
They have now been ordered to report to the Care Quality Commission (CQC) every week. Inspectors say the new check-ins must convince them standards are improving at The Princess Royal and Royal Shrewsbury hospitals.
The CQC said it remained “very concerned” about the trust’s emergency and maternity services at both sites.
The Trust is now compelled to report to the CQC over action it is taking to ensure effective care and patient safety. The Trust have commented that they are actively trying to improve the situation.
