Changes to the law mean that employees can now self-certify for up to 28 days’ (including non-working days) absence.
Employer’s need to think about how they manage their employees’ sickness absence in light of this. Fit notes can be useful guides (if used correctly) to assist in return to work.
Sickness absence policies should be reviewed and revised if necessary to set out those circumstances in which, despite the change to the law, a Fit Note from the doctor may still be required.
