This morning the Chancellor has announced a financial package to support some businesses in the new lockdown. He has stated that there are grants totalling £4.6bn available for businesses in the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors. He has said businesses in those sectors will receive one-off grants worth up to £9,000. Details of how the payments will be made or whether businesses have to apply are yet to be announced.
Announced yesterday the following businesses must close during the lockdown –
● all non-essential retail (although click and collect can still be operated and delivery services can still operate)
● hospitality venues (although take-away (excluding alcohol) is permitted until 11pm and delivery is still permitted)
● accommodation (save for certain exceptions)
● leisure and sports facilities
● entertainment venues
● animal attractions
