What a fantastic event!
Last week our Worcester Care Team hosted an event at Worcestershire County Cricket Club. The successful event, which included drinks and nibbles, included a presentation from Tom Harrill of St Ives Chambers on a hot topic in Public Law – placing under 16s in unregulated placements. All local children lawyers, Guardians and social workers were invited.
This is a particular hot topic for Worcestershire Local Authority as it recently received national media attention for placing a 12 year old boy in unregulated care in a caravan on a campsite in Lancashire. There is a significant shortage of registered placements and so whilst it is now unlawful for a council to place under-16s in an unregulated home, no enforcement action has been taken against a Local Authority.
We can’t believe that it has been three years since we last held this event and it was a pleasure to host it again and to be together. We would like to say a special thank you to all the local child care lawyers who attended and gave us such lovely, positive feedback.
